چکیده

The paper shows the methods for imaging power spectral density of speech and extracting formant frequencies from continuous voice. The methods will be used to improve the patients' rehabilitation after the total laryngectomy surgery. The adaptive algorithms and transversal filters were implemented to estimate the transfer function of human vocal tract model. The estimation methods were based on statistical, Auto-Regressive model of speech production. The pilot study on formant frequencies, especially F1 and F2 formants, and their linear separation for each vowel has been presented. The method for recognition pathological voice has been proposed.

Assessment of nutritional parameter outcome in laryngeal cancer patients undergoing laryngectomy

Introduction: Laryngectomy in patients with laryngeal cancer can lead to the reduction of nutritional parameters. Supportive treatments and supplementary nutritional supports are recommended in all patients undergoing laryngectomy, even with acceptable preoperative nutritional indices. The aim of this study was to evaluate postoperative changes in nutritional parameters in patients with larynge...

Speech rehabilitation during the first year after total laryngectomy.

BACKGROUND Gaining a new voice is one of the major aims after total laryngectomy. The objective of this study was to describe the process and results of speech rehabilitation during the first year after surgery. METHODS Speech intelligibility was measured 6 months (n = 273) and 1 year (n = 225) after total laryngectomy. RESULTS Objective (23.4 to 47.5 points, p < .0001) and subjective (51.6...

Speech Reconstruction in Post-Laryngectomised Patients by Formant Manipulation and Pitch Profile Generation

rehabilitation of the ability to speak in a natural sounding voice, for patients who suffer larynx and voice box deficiencies, has long been a dream for both patients and researchers working in this field. Removal of, or damage to, the voice box in a surgical operation such as laryngectomy, affects the pitch generation mechanism of the human voice production system. Such patients speech thus be...

Motivation as a predictor of speech intelligibility after total laryngectomy.

BACKGROUND It has often been argued that if patients' success with speech rehabilitation after laryngectomy is limited, it is the result of lacking motivation on their part. This project investigated the role of motivation in speech rehabilitation. METHODS In a multicenter prospective cohort study, 141 laryngectomees were interviewed at the beginning of rehabilitation and 1 year after larynge...
